How you can help Step by Step

Sir Winston Churchill once said; "We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give." And Woodrow Wilson once said; "You are not here merely to make a living… you are here to enrich the world. You impoverish yourself if you forget this errand." What both are trying to tell us is that there are huge benefits for the giver which on most occasions are forgotten.

Traditionally when people are challenged to give, the immediate thought is of financial giving, such as:

But there are many other ways to help Step by Step: although financial giving is essential to the operation of Step by Step, giving time or goods can be just as beneficial. Those who take some time out to volunteer feel a great sense of reward from the work they carry out on our behalf, whether it be by doing some administrative work, maintenance or whatever happens to be needed at the time.

Local groups and organisations who work to donate goods to Step by Step find that working towards a set goal which benefits an organisation in which they have confidence is a wonderful motivator. Those who run events to raise money for us feel a great sense of achievement when they hit their target. Therefore, we must remember that by giving in some way we develop as individuals, and groups of people develop as teams.

In essence, giving offers the giver a sense of reward and satisfaction in the knowledge that their contribution makes a valuable difference to Step by Step.

How will your help make a difference to the young homeless people Step by Step is working with everyday?
We are grateful for all donations and always ensure they are put to the best possible use:

  • £5 could provide a welcome pack of toiletries for a young person coming off the streets
  • £10 feeds a young person in Emmaus House for a week
  • £25 funds our weekly costs to provide three volunteer counsellors providing weekly counselling to six young people
  • £60 will provide tutors for a month of skills training to young people attending our Daylight project
  • £100 provides staff support for a year to enable a young person to get back into education and support them through their transition period
  • £250 provides training to 16 young people each month so that they can help to prevent homelessness by educating 1,500 children in local schools and youth groups each year
  • £500 will pay for staffing to support a homeless young person for six months!
