Welcome to the Step by Step Schools page...
This is where we'll be providing plenty of ideas for how your school can be involved with Step by Step.
We don't just want your money or gifts, though - we'd love you to be involved and informed about what we do, so please contact us and we'll do all we can to make sure that you and your class or group really understand what homelessness is, the effects it can have on young people, and how your efforts can make a real difference.

Did you know....?
- that our HELP Team can visit your school and talk about homelessness from first-hand experience? They're a group of young people who have themselves been homeless, so they know what they're talking about. Ring for a booking on 01252 333251.
- that our recently-formed Dr.Al team are also available to visit your school or youth club to talk about the realities of misusing drugs and alcohol. We find that young people often take more notice of their peers than they do of their parents or teachers, so why not get the team along? Ring to find out more and make a booking on 01252 312407.
They will engage with your school, youth group, scout group and in their own unique way bring home the difficulties that homeless young people face, in a way that is lively, unusual and highly effective.
Looking for a good cause for your class/group/cub pack that's a bit different?
No one is very keen on collecting money (although we'll gladly take any off your hands if it's going spare!), but there are plenty of other ways of helping Step by Step. For example...
Toiletries
Many of the young people who come to stay at our accommodation projects come with little or no belongings. Very often we provide them with basic toiletries like toothbrushes, tooth paste, shampoo, shower gel, shaving foam, razors etc. Donations of items like this are like gold dust and we often find that younger children enjoy putting together ‘care packages’ from items begged, borrowed or purchased by them or their parents.

Harvest Festival at Farnborough Hill School |
Harvest
Ever wondered what you can usefully do with all those tins from the Harvest Festival?
Every year we do our best to promote and collect as many Harvest Festival donations as possible. We can use any non-perishable foods for Emmaus House, our emergency accommodation project. We try to collect enough donations to provide us with basic provisions for a whole year. These donations are very important to us and any donation you may be able to organise on our behalf will be incredibly valuable.
Christmas
Looking for a good cause for a Christmas collection? Look no further than Step by Step!
Each Christmas we have a number of young people who stay with us over the Christmas period. We do our very best to ensure that they enjoy the Christmas festivities and this includes making sure that everyone gets a couple of Christmas presents each. We are constantly seeking donations of Christmas presents and, again, your help in this regard would be extremely valuable. A list of suggested items is available here, so you can get cracking right away!
Any other ideas?
Well, how about raising some funds for us by...
- Holding a mufti or denim day
- Paying to wear your favourite football shirt or fancy dress (with a competition for the best!)
- Holding a Christmas or Summer Fair, (or Fayre, if you must)
- Having a raffle
- Organising a Sing-athon
- Putting on a Fashion Show
- Holding a sponsored something or another - Silence, Walk, Hop, Run, Football Tournament - go on, you can think of something...!
How can we help you?
If you've got any ideas about other ways we can help you to help us, do let us know - thanks!
