HELP

HELP (Homeless Education Liaison Project) is a peer training project built on the belief that the greatest influence on young people is other young people. It is designed to train a group of potential peer leaders to deliver peer education to local schools and youth groups and carry out unique and interactive peer education sessions. The project has enjoyed huge success over the years, both for the peer educators and the organisations we work with.

The members of the HELP group attend local schools through their Citizenship classes and youth groups to conduct their interactive presentation on the realities of homelessness, how to avoid becoming homeless and support services that are available. This service is free of charge.

The presentations can be tailored to suit groups of all ages and usually include role-play aimed at demonstrating what it feels like to be homeless and how society views homeless people. This is then followed by personal stories and details of Step by Step and other support services.

Through their involvement in the HELP group, our peer trainers develop increased confidence and self-esteem along with a range of interpersonal skills – skills for life. We know that those involved in the HELP group tend to progress further towards a successful transition into independent living.
Using their unique combination of role play, music, personal stories, members of the HELP group manage to connect with young people in a unique way, creating sessions which are fun, interactive and beneficial for all involved.

If you would like to book the HELP group to come and visit you please contact: 01252 333251.
