ACCOMMODATION PROJECTS
Stage 1 - Emmaus House
295 referrals for emergency accommodation received.
Of these:
63% were male and 37% were female.
53% were self-referrals and
47% were referred by local authorities and agencies
48% quoted their reason for homelessness as family breakdown
237 interviews were offered
110 young people were accommodated,
14 of these through our crisis bed.
Of these:
44% were 16 or 17 years old
56% were male and 44% were female
All targets were met or exceeded, including staffing levels and occupancy
72% of residents moved on in a planned and positive way from the project
74% of residents made use of keyworking support

Stage 2 - Victoria Road
64 referrals received.
Of these:
40 were male and 24 were female
All referrals came from Emmaus House
52 young people were accommodated.
Of these 62% were male and 38% were female
All targets except staffing levels were met or exceeded during the year
90% of residents moved on in a planned positive way
100% of residents made use of keyworking support

Stage 3 – Mills House
18 new referrals were received.
Of these:
72% were male and 28% were female
39% were 16-18 years old and 61% were 19-24
All referrals came from Victoria Road
18 young people were accommodated
All targets were met or exceeded, including staffing levels and occupancy
100% of residents made use of keyworking support
91% moved on in a planned and positive way from the project

Stage 4 – Community Flats
New project opening in two phases in April and August 2004, consisting of 7 independent flats dispersed throughout Aldershot
and Farnborough.
11 new referrals were received.
Of these:
64% were male and 36% were female
45% were aged 17-19 and 55% were aged 19-24
10 referrals came from Mills House and one from Victoria Road
10 young people were accommodated
All targets were met or exceeded, including staffing levels and occupancy
100% of residents made us of keyworking support.
Tenancy Support
New project developed in 2004 and opening in early 2005,
providing targeted, tapered support plans to service users aged 16-29
to enable them to find and sustain accommodation and successful independent living
7 referrals received
Of these:
71% were male and 29% were female
43% were aged 16-19 and 57% were aged 20-27 years
6 young people self-referred and 1 was referred by Hampshire Youth Bureau
6 young people were supported by the project
Clients were supported with a range of issues, in particular problems
with debts, housing benefit, budgeting and tenancies
SUPPORTIVE LODGINGS
Hampshire
28 young people were accommodated and supported during the year.
Of these:
32% were male and 68% were female
96% were 16-18 years old, 4% were aged 20
All referrals came through Hampshire Social Services Leaving Care Team
Occupancy ran at 88%, meaning carers had an average of only 7 weeks ‘rest’ in the year
95% of young people had a planned positive move on from this project
Surrey
9 young people were accommodated and supported during the year.
Of these:
100% were 15-17 years old
All referrals came through Surrey Social Services Child Care Support Team
86% of young people had a planned positive move on from this project

TRAINING PROJECTS
Daylight and CyberShed
217 young people attended the projects
64% were male and 36% were female
58% were 16-19 years old and 42% were aged 20-25
On average 24 young people attended these projects every day
46% of clients were attended 10 or more sessions
38% of the clients progressed,
42% remained static (as most of our clients are on a fast downward spiral
when they come to us this is seen as a positive indicator) and
20% regressed
106 clients engaged on the Profile of Achievement City and Guilds Award programme, and
37 clients achieved an award
with a further 22 still working towards their award at the end of the year.
HELP
13 young people involved in the HELP team during the year
24 presentations made to schools and youth groups across Hart, Rushmoor, Surrey Heath and Berkshire
1099 people presented to, of which:
49% were aged 11-17
32% were under 11
16% were adults
Feedback from schools and youth groups on the impact and value of the
presentations was excellent

55 new referrals received, of which:
30% had no fixed abode at the time of referral
25% were Emmaus Projects residents
4% were local authority tenants
11% lived with parents
2% lived with another family member
11% lived in private rented accommodation
2% lived in supported housing, and
15% were in other accommodation
68% were male and 32% were female
30% were aged 16-18, 70% were aged 19-26
66 young people supported with drug / alcohol and housing needs
Attendance rates were very high at 62%
The main drug of choice stated by service users was alcohol,
followed closely by cannabis and heroin. |
