Local homelessness charity Step by Step has received an unexpected gift from Father Christmas. Chris Bamford, chair of Camberley ex-Round Tablers’ 41 Club, presented a cheque for £400 to Leanne Grubb, Step by Step’s Community Fundraiser.
Every December, the club takes Father Christmas and his float around the streets of Camberley and Frimley to collect funds for local charities and good causes. The 2009 collection was equally distributed between Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice, Marie Curie Cancer Care, the Mayor of Surrey Heath’s Appeal, and Step by Step.
To show their appreciation of this generous donation, Step by Step presented Chris with a ‘thank-you’ card designed and made by one of Step by Step’s young people. Leanne said “This card was made by a very talented client as part of our Daylight Designs Craft & Business Skills Development project and I felt it was an appropriate way to express our gratitude to the 41 Club for their generous donation. At Christmas there was a waiting list of 25 young people looking for somewhere to sleep, and it’s comforting to know that people from the local community were doing what they could to help us raise much needed funds at that time.”
Chris explained that he was delighted to demonstrate that the collections directly benefit local organisation, and he thanked everyone who donated to the club’s collectors in December. Camberley 41 Club meets monthly at Camberley Heath Golf Club and is keen to welcome new members; previous membership of Round Table is not necessary and you can contact him on 01276 684722.
Step by Step is a local youth homelessness charity, which, as well as providing accommodation for vulnerable young people also aims to achieve the charity’s mission of supporting those young people to achieve their full potential through the provision of their Youth Development Services. Daylight Designs enables Step by Step’s young people to develop business skills through designing, producing and selling goods such as cards and jewellery, which are sold to raise funds.
Step by Step is always in need of support, both financial and practical, to continue its vital services. Sponsoring a client costs only £11 per week.
