Local charity Step by Step’s ambitious fundraising event held recently at the prestigious Aviator hotel on Farnborough’s TAG Airport was hailed as a huge success by guests, sponsors and organisers. As well as a highly enjoyable evening, the charity benefited from a £7,500 boost to their funds, enabling them to continue to provide much-needed services to support homeless young people and those facing adversity in the local community.

This was the first time the charity had organised such an event, and tickets sold out fast. “The evening was a great success and everyone had a good time and contributed generously,” reports Amanda Dubarry, Chief Executive at Step by Step. “We are thrilled to have raised so much and we were delighted by the support we received both from TAG, who sponsored the event, staff at The Aviator, those who generously provided lots for the auction, and our guests. We not only raised much needed funds but also discovered some great new supporters.”

The event was entitled ‘Come fly with me…’ and included food, magic and excellent music from local band The Fat Cats, who whipped up a storm with their mix of classic rock and pop. They enthusiastically entered into the spirit of the event by dressing in appropriate aviation costumes, much to everyone’s delight.

Another highlight of the evening was an auction containing some exciting lots, including a trip for four to the luxury Chateau Berne in Provence that provoked a vigorous bidding war. Farnham’s 3 Peaks Outdoor Activity Centre promised a lively day for a group of 16, and the winner of the meal for six in a private dining room at the Aviator found herself very popular after her successful bid! Leanne Grubb, Community Fundraiser for Step by Step, said “Our guests all enjoyed some exciting bidding and we are very grateful to our donors for their generosity in providing such fantastic lots. It was definitely a night to remember.”

The Community Fundraising Team are now brainstorming ideas for future events and would be delighted to hear from anyone who has ideas to share and/or time to spare to get involved in or out of normal working hours.
