The new president of Farnham Weyside Rotary Club, Lynda Pattie, has named Step by Step, the Aldershot-based charity that works with homeless and disadvantaged young people, as her chosen charity for 2011/12.
“I have been extremely impressed by the work of Step by Step,” she said. “Their policy of providing support and training on a one-to-one basis in order to meet the needs of each individual reaps excellent results and enables young people to escape the downward spiral of homelessness and re-enter mainstream society. This is good for the young people and good for the community and we are proud to be supporting them.”
Step by Step will benefit from the club's major fundraising events during 2012. A Golf Day is planned for June, and the highly popular annual Duck Race on the River Wey over Easter will also help to realise Lynda's target of raising substantial amounts of money during the year.
As well as generating much-needed funds for the charity, members of Farnham Weyside Rotary Club will be offering their practical and professional services in a variety of ways, by offering job interview experience to Step by Step clients, for example.
“Our adoption as the Rotary Club's charity for the year is a tremendous boost for everyone at Step by Step,” said Amanda Dubarry, Chief Executive. “Not only will the money help us to maintain and develop our services, it also demonstrates a public recognition of the valuable work we do within the community. We are really looking forward to working with Lynda and members of the club.
