The newly elected Mayor of Rushmoor, Cllr Alex Crawford and his wife the Mayoress, Jennifer Evans, recently visited our new premises in Crimea Road, Aldershot. Guided by CEO Amanda Dubarry and our Chairman, Mike Brown, they saw for themselves the bright, comfortable accommodation, meeting rooms and offices and also had the opportunity to see Youth AIMS staff talking to clients to assess their needs. Other highlights of the visit included CyberShed, our computer suite, where clients can compile their CVs, make online job applications and keep in touch with family and friends via e-mail and social media such as Facebook.

Cllr Crawford said "As a magistrate, I was particularly delighted to hear about the high success rate of the youth workers based at Step by Step in motivating young people to move on from abusing drugs and alcohol, as these are too often associated with crime".

The Mayoress added: "Whenever I’ve dreamed about what is needed to put the world to rights, I’ve thought that it would be good to have a place like this - somewhere that brings all these services together for young people."

"Mayor Alex Crawford and his wife were incredibly well informed about the issues around youth homelessness", commented Amanda Dubarry. "It was a real pleasure to show them both around our new building and discuss with them the benefits for the town of having all of our services in a single modern building."

The new accommodation visited by the Mayor and Mayoress occupies the two top floors of the Crimea Road building. In Step 1 accommodation, clients have single study-bedrooms with showers and share an open plan kitchen, dining and lounge area where they interact and share chores. Clients on Step 2 (on the top floor) live in clusters of four single study-bedrooms; each cluster has its own kitchen/dining area. Step by Step's accommodation structure is designed to support clients into gaining increasing levels of independence as they begin to overcome their difficulties, take control of their lives and become reintegrated into society.
