Claire Willcocks, Human Resources Manager at Nokia UK was recently presented with a bottle of champagne to celebrate the launch of the latest fund raising venture by local charity Step by Step. She was the first person to register to do a sponsored tandem skydive, encouraged by Nokia’s active volunteering programme, which supports many local charities.
Parachute Jumping is the latest scheme devised by Step by Step to provide supporters with an enjoyable, fulfilling and fun way of raising funds for the Aldershot-based charity, which helps over 300 homeless young people a year in the North East Hampshire/Surrey area. Step by Step provides safe living accommodation and also aims to give these vulnerable youngsters the skills they need to be re-integrated into mainstream society.
There is a choice of three different jumps – tandem freefall from 10,000 ft, static line jump from 3,000 ft, or an accelerated freefall solo skydive, also from 10,000 ft; full training is, of course, included. As a further incentive to take the plunge, volunteers can get their jump for free if they raise sufficient sponsorship.
Leanne Grubb, Step By Step’s Community Fundraiser, said, “Claire is hopefully the first of many who will sign up to jump and help our homeless young people get back on track and realise their full potential.”
If you feel brave enough to skydive and need a challenge for the spring, full details are on Step by Step's website at:
