Aldershot based charity, Emmaus Projects, has changed its name to Step by Step. This is a tremendous development for this vibrant and successful charity whose mission is to ‘empower homeless people and those facing adversity to achieve their full potential’.
The charity has been operational for over 15 years and in recent times recognised that there were significant issues around its name. There are literally hundreds of organisations using the word Emmaus in their names including one large UK based charity also working with homeless people. This resulted in significant confusion amongst funders and within the charity environment on the whole.
Lisa McSweeney, Fundraising & Marketing Manager said; “Getting funding is absolutely critical to our continued operation, growth and development. Rebranding has afforded us the opportunity to really stand out from the crowd and improve our image as a dynamic and youthful charity making a real difference in the lives of hundreds of young people, as well as improving our community, year in year out.”
The decision to rebrand was not taken lightly. Amanda Dubarry, Chief Executive explains; “We started the rebranding process by securing support from a firm of consultants who gave us their time on a voluntary basis. We entered into consultation with the young people and our staff as it was paramount to gain their views in the first instance. Initial
indicators were that a rebrand would be a positive move for the organisation. We then consulted with other stakeholders including funders, churches, local authorities and other organisations working with young people in the area. This forum also concluded that a name change would not only be beneficial but was crucial to the organisations continued
success. Next came the laborious task of identifying suitable names, researching and analysing those new possibilities and driving forward the name change. It’s been a task which has been carefully undertaken and it is a great achievement for Step by Step.”
Not only has the name changed but the charity’s offices on Victoria Road are now sporting a fresh new look too. New signage and window lettering are now in place, designed to make the most of the charity’s new brand. All these positive changes are an excellent reflection of the outstanding positive contribution Step by Step makes to the community and the charities approach to tackling one of the most challenging social issues affecting the country on the whole.
