Residents at Step by Step, the Aldershot-based charity which supports and accommodates homeless young people have a special reason to give thanks for local Harvest Festivals this year. Over 45 organisations in the area donated the fruits of their seasonal celebrations to the charity and as a result, the organisation's food store is now replete with such things as pasta, rice, tinned meat, fish and fruit, sauces, cereals, tea, coffee and other non-perishable items, ensuring a continued supply of basic foods for the coming months.
“As ever, we are grateful for the tremendous generosity of schools, churches and individuals,” said Amanda Dubarry, Step by Step's Chief Executive. “Their collections enable us to provide good quality, healthy meals for our residents while we focus our resources on providing fresh produce to supplement the basics.”
Steps by Step's aim is to empower young people to become independent and this includes fostering an understanding of healthy eating, cooking and budgeting. The Harvest Festival donations go a long way to supporting this ethos.
A full list of those who donated food and other items is given below.
Organisations or individuals who would like to consider donating part of their 2010 Harvest Festival food collections or other items to Step by Step should contact Zoe Davies, Head of Client Services. In the meantime, the organisation is seeking donations for Christmas, including food and gifts for residents; more details are available here.
