Afternoon Tea Week: 14th-20th August

Cake and a cuppa?

We would like to invite you to take part in Afternoon Tea Week #afternoonteaweek between 14th and 20th August this year.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."
Henry James

Whether it's a Mad Hatter extravaganza or a calm and cool cucumber sandwich affair, you can put your own spin on this fine tradition and support young people like Andrew.

Andrew's Story

Andrew was referred to Step by Step after being street homeless for three weeks. Prior to this, Andrew had lived with his Mum, Stepdad, and siblings and when the relationship broke down Andrew moved to his Nan's. Due to Andrew's mental health issues, this too broke down. Since living with Step by Step, Andrew has had the time and space required in order to gain his independence and re-establish contact with his Mum and Nan, to the point where Andrew was able to attend both family homes for Christmas.

Andrew has now progressed to Supported Lodgings and is doing well in his placement.

Afternoon Tea Week

We'd love your help to support more young people like Andrew. In fact, we are aiming to work with over 1930 young people and family members this year.

To get involved in Afternoon Tea Week:

  • At work - bake or buy scones and make a good cuppa to go with them. Ask work colleagues to donate to enjoy the tasty treats
  • School holidays so get the kids involved - have an afternoon tea party at home and invite friends / family for a small donation - great to teach the kids cooking skills as well as helping other young people at the same time
  • At home with friends and family - open up your house / garden for an afternoon tea - will you go traditional or put a quirky theme in your event?  Cheese and Pickle sandwiches, peanut butter and banana, what will you be serving your guests with their tea and scones?
  • Think you're the best baker?  Have a scone baking competition at your work, home, any groups you are involved with and ask people to pay to enter

Join in with friends / family / colleagues or just make a cuppa at home for yourself and donate via text: Text TEAS80 £2 to 70070 today.

However you take your tea, we would love to support you in fundraising for Step by Step. For more information please contact fundraising@stepbystep.org.uk or call 01252 346112
