Talent Coaching

The Talent Coach is a multi-disciplinary role which draws on the expertise and talents of the role holder to support young people to make informed decisions and empowering them to explore opportunities that will uncover and nurture their talents. 

The role holder will be expected to provide intensive 1 to 1 and group support for young people who present with a variety of needs but that are primarily identified as requiring engagement that builds their resilience and removes identified barriers to their employability. Our aim is to build resilience, prevent the need for specialist statutory involvement, increase opportunities to reach often hidden potential and ultimately reduce barriers to employment. 

The role will involve delivering interventions and providing advice and guidance on number of issues including (but not limited to): employment; education & training (including exclusion); housing; contraception and sexual health; teenage pregnancy; drugs and alcohol; emotional health and wellbeing; mental health and family and relationships. Successful applicants will have extensive knowledge of issues that affect young people and experience in coaching and mentoring to enable them to be overcome. 

You will need to demonstrate an awareness of Advantaged Thinking* and holistic methods of supporting young people in an asset-based manner which builds on their strengths. You will be responsible for recording information for assessment and monitoring purposes and will have experience with report writing and recording information using databases. 

The role will also involve liaising closely with a range of internal and partner agencies to ensure positive outcomes on behalf of the client group. The ability to work as part of a team in a multi-disciplinary and multi-agency setting is essential. A Talent Coach is the lead professional who oversees a supporting team comprised of student social workers, mentors and volunteers. Each of these people will play a vital role in ensuring that the young people you work with reach their maximum potential. 

The role will be based across the entire Guildford Borough, working with vulnerable young people in the community. Successful applicants will need to have a full driving licence, their own transportation and relevant insurance required for carrying out this role.

Full training on specialist areas will be given to the right candidate who is able to demonstrate a core skill base and an attitude which is aligned to the values of Step by Step. 

Future STEPS falls under the umbrella of Youth AIMS (Youth Advice Information and Mediation Service). This is a community-based service run by Step by Step which delivers a number of projects that aim to prevent homelessness and support young people facing adversity in the local community. The service provides confidential support which aims to be non-judgemental and fully supportive in trying to meet the needs of young people. The Step by Step team are positive, dynamic, professional and committed to empowering young people to reach their full potential.
