Support Worker, Dorset Services (40 hour post)

Step by Step is a dynamic local Charity supporting young people. We are a forward thinking, innovative and caring organisation working to prevent homelessness for young people and the problems caused by homelessness. Offering accommodation, training, advice and support to those in need and facing adversity, we also promote widespread awareness of the issues involved amongst the local community.

STEP Worker

Building on a vision that sees the organisation setting standards for excellence with values of openness and trust, courage, teamwork, responsibility and accountability, you will be responsible for delivering accommodation and development support and progression opportunities to young people facing adversity and at risk of homelessness. Located within our accommodation service in Shaftesbury you will empower young people to achieve independence and access a range of opportunities to lead fulfilling lives and realise their ambitions.

You will have responsibility for ensuring that young people accessing the service receive both opportunity and advocacy, and that they are able to develop their skills and talents in a manner which empowers them to go on and access employment and/or educational facilities, whilst continuing to take on more responsibilities and to ultimately achieve and maintain independence.

We believe that everyone has ability and talent - we help harness that talent and allow young people (and our team) to see the potential that we knew was there all along. The role will involve liaising closely with a range of internal and external agencies to ensure positive outcomes on behalf of the client group, which will include positive move on, access to employment and education and a solution focused approach to lifestyle challenges and opportunities.

You should be able to work proactively and on your own initiative, whilst also maintaining consistency and fairness of approach in line with organisational values and standards.

Successful applicants will demonstrate an awareness of and a willingness to adopt an Advantaged Thinking ethos * and they will possess a strength based approach to working with young people that nurtures talent and enables real change and development.
