Volunteer's Week - The Big Celebration

Wednesday 1st June 2016

Volunteers' Week - The Big Celebration runs from 1st to 12th June and we are celebrating the hard work our volunteers put in through the year.  Volunteers support us to deliver the services that young people rely on, thank you for making a difference in the lives of the young people we work with.

Volunteering with Step by Step is flexible, as Robyn found out when she joined us. It fits around her family life and even got her family coming along to events together. We asked her a few questions about her experience.

Q: What made you choose Step by Step as the charity you wanted to volunteer for?

A: I decided to join Step by Step as I have heard of all the great work that the organisation does in this area of Hampshire. I have spoken to teenagers in our area that have benefited from the support and guidance during difficult times for them. It has been a place of support and guidance in a time when they have had nowhere else to turn.

Q: What do you like about volunteering for Step by Step?

A: I enjoy the sense of community, the flexibility and the variety of voluntary work available at Step by Step. It enriches my life to know that a small input of my time can support this very worthwhile organisation. The people that I have worked with are lovely and very flexible.

Q: What have you done so far and what are you hoping to do in your volunteer journey with Step by Step?

A: During my time at Step by Step I have helped collect funds at various events, I enjoy the interaction with the community and I am always amazed by the generosity of people within our area.

Q: How does volunteering for Step by Step make you feel?

A: Step by Step enriches my life as, having children myself, I know the absolute importance of supporting the basics of young adults so they can reach their full potential.

Q: Do your family support your volunteering / get involved?

A: Step by Step has given my family the opportunity to get involved in fundraising which has heightened their awareness, compassion, and thoughtfulness for the community.
