Active Walking Programme
Tuesday 23rd August 2016
One of our volunteers, Denise, is walking 800 kilometers on the Camino de Santiago de Compostela this September which has been a long held ambition of hers. All money that she raises will be coming directly to Step by Step. To help with her training, and to inspire the young people into similar activities Denise was a key player in the launch of our Active Walking Programme.
By introducing young people to map reading, route planning, and navigation skills, we aim to inspire them to explore the great outdoors. In July we completed three local walks and we are now ready to take on the North Downs Way!
STEP Worker, Emma, said: "Denise has worked hard to put together this 'Active Walking Programme'. It has succeeded in getting young people outdoors over the summer, helped them gain leadership skills, explore the local community and built strong teamwork skills - whilst also improving their fitness levels. It has been inspirational for young people to have worked with Denise to help her achieve her personal goal, as achieving goals is something we focus on so heavily with them."
