Robert has made significant progress in his time with Step by Step, going from a young man who avoided spending time with others, to a confident young man who was willing to showcase our Basingstoke Foyer service to assessors.

On the 10th March 2017, our Foyer in Basingstoke was assessed as part of the Foyer Federation Accreditation. Young people were excited for the visit and had planned and prepared the day ahead to showcase the Foyer and their achievements.

Robert, who lives in one of the Step 2 houses, was involved in the visit and took the assessor on a tour of Step 2 whilst also sharing his journey so far.

Robert came to Step by Step as he wasn't getting on with his Mum, they were arguing all the time and Robert felt he couldn't live at home anymore. Robert initially moved into Step 1, he showed great potential and skills to live independently. He soon progressed to one of the Step 2 houses.

Whilst living in the Foyer Robert achieved his level two referee course, his aspiration is to become a professional referee and, this year, complete his college course studying sports.

"staff helped me gain confidence to do this. Before I came to Step by Step, I wasn't very good at talking to people but I've since made a lot of new friends and now enjoy speaking to new people."

Robert is an Ambassador within the Foyer which involves being an advocate for other young people and meeting with the Board to represent his peers, express their opinions and ideas collectively about Step by Step.
