Who are we?

Step by Step (SBS) is a Charity that passionately believes in supporting young people who are going through hard times. Our unique step by step approach, providing accommodation, personal development opportunities and specialist support services, identifies and fulfils aspirations.

Each year we work with over 1,500 young people aged 11–25. The Step-by-Step team are positive, dynamic, professional, and committed to empowering young people to fulfil their full potential.

What would you be doing?

Each year we work with over 1,500 young people aged 11-25 and our Recovery Support Worker (RSW) will play a pivotal role in empowering young people and preventing homelessness through substance misuse support.

The RSW is an exciting new post to support young people with substance and/or alcohol misuse needs.

Currently the majority reason for placements ending through evictions is behavioural episodes in connection to substance misuse. Access to specialist services is limited and waiting lists for these services are ever growing. If these difficulties are not dealt with at the crucial time, problems can escalate and potentially result in more significant substance use, reduced engagement and homelessness.

The RSW will contribute to the Aldershot Foyer, Basingstoke Foyer, and the North Hampshire Supported Lodgings Service. We are focused on empowering young people to achieve independence and providing a range of opportunities, enabling them to optimise their talents and achieve excellent outcomes.

You will be required to meet young people in a location convenient to them either within their accommodation or the community.

What is Step by Step looking for?

  • Applicants should have experience of working with young people and should demonstrate empathy, understanding and knowledge of the issues which may result in adversity.
  • You should be able to work independently and on your own initiative.
  • It is essential that applicants hold a full UK driving license with access to a car.
  • Other Titles for this role could include Drug and Alcohol Support Worker.
