Care Home Residents Take on Virtual Cycle

  • 17 September 2020

The inspiring residents of Gracewell care home in Church Crookham are raising money for Step by Step with a virtual bike ride. The group are cycling from Land's End to John O’Groats using an exercise bike rigged up to a computer and screen to simulate the epic challenge. Calling themselves Team GW, they hope to raise money to give local young people a brighter future.

“We were all young once,” members of Team GW told us. “It’s not fair that we don’t all get the best start in life, but it’s great that Step by Step are there to help.”

The team take particular inspiration from James Mowat, the young man who came to Step by Step when he was homeless and is today a successful businessman (read more of James’ story here).

The residents take it in turns to do a stint on the virtual route, and even those who are wheelchair users are taking part. All are committed to supporting a local charity they believe in. They expect to complete the 1,000 km journey by Christmas.
