Our Open Doors 2021 appeal is now live, hoping to raise much needed funds for young people facing homelessness this Christmas.
Thousands of young people become homeless in the UK each year, usually as a result of family breakdown, escaping abuse or leaving care with nowhere else to turn. The Open Doors appeal seeks to accommodate and support young people such as these, over the festive period and beyond. Last year, we raised an incredible £55,000 thanks to the generosity of our supporters.
This year has been particularly tough. The fallout from the pandemic and the ending of the Universal Credit uplift have contributed to homelessness and increased demand for our services. So once again we are inviting members of the public, groups, churches, schools and businesses to donate to Open Doors and help young people in their community.
Of course, Step by Step doesn’t just support young people at Christmas. The funding we receive allows us to offer intervention, accommodation and specialist support throughout the year. Our model of support is focused not just on short-term housing, but empowering young people with the skills and confidence for a positive, sustainable future.
Nick Goom, Head of Income Generation at Step by Step, commented: “The Open Doors appeal has gone from strength to strength each year, representing the kindness and commitment of our fantastic supporters. The funds raised allow us to give young people a safe and supported Christmas and the chance to work towards a brighter future.”
Just £30 will accommodate and support a young person for a day.
