We were pleased to receive a visit from Leo Docherty MP. The Member of Parliament for Aldershot visited his local Step by Step Foyer to meet members of the team and hear about our work supporting young people in his constituency.
Leo Docherty has represented Aldershot, Farnborough, Blackwater and Hawley since 2017. He has been a valued proponent of Step by Step during this time, recognising the difference we make in preventing youth homelessness locally and across the south of England.
Mr Docherty was given a tour of the purpose-built Aldershot Foyer, now in it’s tenth year. He met front-line staff to hear about the rewards and challenges of working with young people, and spoke to CEO Debbie Moreton about our strategy and plans for the future.
He was particularly interested in Step by Step Fostering Ltd, a brand new venture launching later this year. This will be an independent company, allowing Step by Step to reach more young people while contributing to the financial stability of the charity.
The MP commented: “It is always a pleasure to visit Step by Step and hear about the invaluable work they do in preventing youth homelessness in our community. To see this passionate and forward-thinking charity at work is very inspiring.”
Leo Docherty is the latest in a number of high-profile visitors expressing an interest in Step by Step recently, including North Hampshire MP Ranil Jayawardena and Her Royal Highness the Countess of Wessex.
Jack was unable to live with his mum as she wasn't able to find permanent accommodation. He presented himself to our Youth AIMS drop-in advice service where he was able to receive support and look at the next steps available to him.
