MPs Visit Frontline of Youth Homelessness Fight

  • 10 February 2025

It was our pleasure to welcome Gregory Stafford MP and Alex Baker MP for a tour of our Aldershot headquarters. They viewed our purpose-built facilities and heard about the range of specialist services we offer, before a discussion about how we might collaborate in future.

The visit was arranged following our recent presentation to Parliament, where we shared the findings of our Moving Towards Independence research project. This study was a collaboration with the University of Southampton, and a unique opportunity for policy makers to hear directly from young people affected by the issues.

The presentation resonated with Gregory Stafford, MP for Farnham and Bordon, and he wanted to find out more about our mission to prevent youth homelessness and the associated risk factors. Alex Baker, MP for Aldershot and Farnborough, has been a keen proponent of our work since taking office.

The MPs met with Step by Step CEO, Debbie Moreton, and Head of Foyers and Wellbeing, Mae Harris.

Debbie commented: “It was a pleasure to welcome Alex Baker MP and Gregory Stafford MP on Friday to tour our services and discuss the critical issues affecting young people today. Their visit provided a valuable opportunity to highlight the challenges faced by those we support and the vital work we do to empower them towards a brighter future.”

Mae echoed these sentiments: “Our discussions delved into collaborative approaches to services and explored how local government can support us and the young people we serve. It was fantastic to have the MPs listen to the needs of young people on the ground and work together on overcoming these challenges at the highest levels.”

Step by Step is on a mission to fight youth homelessness and its causes. We welcome the invaluable support of those who can help us affect real, lasting change for young people in our communities.
