We’ve launched our Christmas appeal to help open our doors to 289 young people over the festive period.
With an estimated 1 in 100 young people expected to experience homelessness in the UK, Open Doors offers vulnerable young people safety and support at a difficult time of the year.
We believe that no one deserves to be homeless, especially at Christmas, and this year we will be accommodating and supporting more young people than ever before.
Open Doors is a way for the public, community groups and local businesses to get involved and raise money for a worthy cause – to bring a safe and supported Christmas to young people who have nowhere else to turn.
“Christmas is a hard time for the young people who stay with us,” says Debbie Moreton, Head of Young People’s Services. “It’s a reminder of families they can’t be a part of, whether through conflict, addiction or abuse. Open Doors allows us to give young people a safe place to stay and the closest thing they can have to a family Christmas.”
Just £30 enables us to open our doors to a young person for a day this Christmas, providing accommodation and specialist support. This means that donations are lasting, sustainable gifts that help young people break the cycle of homelessness.
Please go to our Open Doors page to donate.
"It was the best Christmas I've ever had. We're like a family here at Step by Step."
If it wasn't for Step by Step, my Christmas Day would have been on the streets. We were able to experience Christmas almost as everyone else does who has a home.
