Sailing Success for Step by Step Crew

  • 19 June 2019

Step by Step volunteer, Matthew Sleap, took part in the Nab Tower Pursuit sailing challenge to raise money for the charity. Not only did he skipper the Bombardier III into second place, he won the Charity Prize for the most money raised towards a charitable cause.

Matthew was joined by Andy, a young person who stays with us in Fareham. As an experienced yachtsman, Matthew was able to train him to become an integral part of the crew and it was a valuable experience he very much enjoyed.

The sailing regatta is sponsored by Portsmouth Harbour Marine and sees yachting enthusiasts, clubs and businesses entering to raise money for their chosen charity. Participants start the pursuit in Gosport, heading towards the Nab Tower off the Isle of Wight, before returning home. The Step by Step crew completed the pursuit in an impressive 3 hours despite high winds and finished in second place.

Sponsorship for Step by Step stood at £866 at the start of the race and has since exceeded the £1,000 target. Matthew and Andy proudly received the trophy for the Charity Prize.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated and to the RAYC who generously lent us the Bombardier III.
