A team of runners representing Step by Step recently took part in the Farnborough Winter Half Marathon and raised a fantastic £2,000 to support the charity.
On Saturday 26th January, 2,500 runners descended on Farnborough, Hampshire for England’s biggest half marathon. Among them were five participants who were fundraising for Step by Step. Ruth, Dhruti, Marcin, Matt and Sam braved a frosty early start to run for young people going through hard times and at risk of homelessness.
We also had six volunteers who worked hard to support all the runners, manning one of the water stations and handing out 1,000 bottles in around an hour.
The Farnborough Winter Half Marathon, organised by 2:09 Events, is a sell-out event each year. Not only is it the first major half marathon of the year, but it’s also one of the flattest and fastest routes in the South. The famous historic Farnborough aircraft hanger was an impressive backdrop to the start and finish of the race.
“I’m so glad to have the opportunity to run for a good cause,” commented runner Dhruti, while Sam, one of two brothers running for us, said “I’ve got very sore feet but so pleased to help Step by Step in supporting young people who are facing challenges in life.”
We would like to extend a huge thank you to the runners and volunteers who made the event such a success for Step by Step.
Now, who’s up for next year?!
