Young Person Award - Eagle Radio Local Hero
Erin Mitchell - Local Hero
Erin, 11, has been fundraising for Step by Step for the past five years through taking part in Sleep Out with her family at our annual Sleep Out challenge. Erin first took part in Sleep Out when she was just seven years old and her participation has opened the doors to Sleep Out becoming the family event that it is today!
Erin first started to want to help homeless people when she was having a meal out before a concert in Manchester. She took some food to someone she saw sleeping rough but she wanted to do more to help people close to home.
Sleep Out is an annual challenge held at Aldershot Town Football Club's ground. The event is really an event of two halves, there's the cardboard den building, food, and local entertainment which is a fun way to spend the early evening before the challenge kicks in and people bed down on the terraces to try and get some sleep.
At Sleep Out this year Erin said,
"my favourite part is where everyone's going to sleep and the lights go out and you snuggle into your sleeping bag."
We are grateful for what Erin brings to Sleep Out. On the 21st September, Erin was recognised for her five years' commitment to supporting Step by Step by becoming an Eagle Radio Local Hero, Erin was given the Young Person Award. You can see her film below.
