Young Person Speaks at CHRP Conference

  • 21 June 2024

Step by Step’s Speak Out group were recently invited to attend the annual conference of the Centre for Homelessness Research and Practice (CHRP). Speak Out is a forum of young people who share their ideas and experiences to help shape Step by Step’s services.

The CHRP conference took place in Brighton, with young person Stevie attending to represent the Speak Out group. She spoke in one of the seminars about the group’s involvement in the current Moving Towards Independence research project in conjunction with the University of Southampton.

Following the seminar, Stevie took part in a networking event where she shared her own care experience journey and her transition into independent living. She proved an excellent advocate for young people facing significant challenges in moving beyond supported accommodation.

We were extremely proud of Stevie for speaking so eloquently and bravely.

The Moving Towards Independence project collects the stories, views and ideas of young people supported by Step by Step, with a view to making recommendations to inform future policy making.

The project’s findings are due to be presented at an event at Step by Step’s Aldershot headquarters on Wednesday 24th July.
