We are excited to announce our hot new event for 2023 – the Step by Step Fire Walk!
Taking place on 19th April at our Basingstoke Foyer, the fire walk will see participants walking barefoot over hot coals to raise money for Step by Step. Those taking on the challenge will get sponsored by family, friends and colleagues, with all proceeds going to support young people facing homelessness.
The experts at UK Fire Walk are helping us run the event. They state that the glowing embers can reach a temperature of 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit, but that very few participants experience any pain.
According to the science, participants are protected by a fine layer of ash on top of the coals which provides a degree of insulation, coupled with the relative insensitivity of the skin on the soles of the feet. We hope that really is the case!
Last year, over 1,500 young people accessed our services, and we’re hoping to support even more this year. Along with our annual Sleep Out, the new Fire Walk event will help bring in essential funds to support our continued growth.
Anda Chiu, Head of Fundraising at Step by Step, commented: “We are so excited to be hosting a fire walking challenge – a first for Step by Step. I will be taking part myself on the night and I hope others will join me. Together we can support young people going through some really tough times.”

Step by Step’s Supported Lodgings has become the first service of its kind to achieve Ofsted accreditation. We are now the largest Supported Lodgings provider in the UK, as well as being considered the authority in the field.
