Leaving a donation to charity in your Will, also known as ‘Legacy Giving’, can make a huge difference to your chosen good cause. That is why Step by Step is taking part in this year’s Remember a Charity Week.
Remember a Charity Week takes place on 5th – 11th September 2022. The campaign aims to raise awareness of the importance of legacy giving for charities like Step by Step, and to encourage people to think about leaving to charities in their Will. A legacy gift can help us continue our work into the future and support the next generation at the point they need a helping hand. Unfortunately, the vast majority of people do not leave to charity in their Will.
Research by Remember a Charity1 found that while 35% of those aged 40 and over would be happy to leave a gift to a charity, only 6% actually do so. Meanwhile, Co-op Legal Services2 point out that 60% of adults do not have a Will. This represents wasted opportunity, both in terms of charities receiving much-needed funds, and potential donors making their wishes known.
Charity Digital3 point out that a charitable donation in a Will does not count toward the taxable value of an individual’s estate. The donor can therefore cut the inheritance tax rate of the rest of their estate by leaving a percentage to charity.
Leaving a legacy gift to Step by Step is very straightforward. Please go here if you would like to find out more.

We are proud to announce the opening of our new move-on property in Bedhampton. This home will support up to four young people aged 18 and over, many of whom might otherwise be left waiting on housing lists, homeless, or relying on a friend’s sofa.
The Bedhampton property is the third Step by Step move-on home – a unique accommodation model for young people ready to move on with their lives but with no viable housing options available to them.
