Sleep Out 2024 was a fantastic success, raising over £19,000 to support our life-changing services. Over 100 participants braved the cold in support of young people facing homelessness, making it one of our biggest Sleep Outs ever.
The event was kindly sponsored by Farnborough Airport and took place at Farnborough Business Park for the third year running, with the Sleepers bedding down under the imposing airship hanger frame. Participants enjoyed music from Rock Choir and an inspiring speech from a young person who has turned their life around. A hearty barbeque supplied and cooked by the army helped stave off the cold.
When the lights went out, everyone got down to what they were there to do – sleep outside without shelter in solidarity with the hundreds of young people who sleep rough for real. It was a freezing night, with temperatures dropping to just 3 degrees C, but everyone endured, and all were happy to see the sun rising the next morning.
We were delighted to welcome Alex Baker MP and Cllr Calum Stewart, Deputy Mayor of Rushmoor.
Event organiser, Katy Day-Jones commented: “What an unforgettable evening! We were thrilled to welcome so many supporters, each of them stepping up as heroes in the fight against youth homelessness. Despite the long, cold night, the atmosphere was filled with warmth. For those who participated, it offered a powerful glimpse into the tough reality many young people endure daily.”
Debbie Moreton, Step by Step CEO, added: “Sleep Out 2024 was nothing short of inspiring. The spirit of unity and purpose was overwhelming. While we can never fully replicate the reality faced by young people sleeping rough, tonight was a powerful reminder of the challenges so many endure.”
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made Sleep Out 2024 such an amazing success. You are all true heroes making a genuine difference to young lives. We would like to thank the following in particular:
