On Monday 9 November 2026, the first day of National Supported Lodgings Week, Step by Step will be at John Lewis, Southampton from 12pm to 3pm. If you’ve ever wondered whether you could host a young person in Southampton, this is a relaxed, no-pressure chance to ask.

We already support young people across the area, including at our Foyer in nearby Totton. Got a spare few minutes on your lunch break? Put your building skills to the test.
Can you build a safe home when the odds keep shifting? Stack your bricks, spin the wheel and see what gets in your way. It takes a few minutes, and it shows the barriers young people face when they’re trying to find a stable place to live.
Supported lodgings hosts offer a young person aged 16 to 24 a room in their home and everyday support while they build towards living independently. We recruit, train and support every host, and hosts receive an allowance. Step by Step is the UK’s leading supported lodgings provider and is Ofsted registered.
Seven young people from Step by Step recently swapped dry land for open water, spending five days crewing a yacht along the south coast with Ocean Youth Trust South.
