We are delighted to announce a one-year partnership with Golden Acre Foods, funding a Supported Independence Flat (SIF) at our Aldershot accommodation. This sponsorship will provide a safe, supported home for four young people at any one time, offering life-changing support to those who would otherwise be at risk of homelessness.
“Golden Acre Foods is proud to support Step by Step and the life-changing work they do for young people,” said Rebecca Cutter, Head of Marketing at Golden Acre Foods. “Their commitment to providing safety, stability, and the opportunities needed to build independent futures truly aligns with our values. We’re proud to play a part in helping young people move forward with confidence.”
Supported Independence Flats are self-contained apartments where young people are encouraged to live independently while having access to Support Workers whenever needed. Residents are expected to manage day-to-day responsibilities such as cooking, laundry, housework, and contributing towards bills. The service is designed to equip young people with the practical skills and confidence needed for independent living when they are ready to move on.
“We are incredibly grateful to Golden Acre Foods for sponsoring one of our Supported Independence Flats,” said Katy Day-Jones, Corporate Partnerships Fundraiser at Step by Step. “Their support makes a real difference, helping us provide a safe and nurturing home for young people who need it most. Golden Acre Foods are a wonderful partner who share our values and understand just how important it is for young people to have a place they can truly call home.”
Supported Independence Flats are funded entirely through fundraised income, rather than local authority contracts. This allows us to extend support to young people who may not be eligible for statutory assistance, reaching those who might otherwise fall through the gaps in the system.
This partnership with Golden Acre Foods highlights a shared commitment to empowering young people, building resilience, and providing them with the foundation they need to thrive as independent adults.
Step by Step welcomes the Government’s announcement that they are aiming to reverse the decline in foster carer numbers. The proposed focus on removing barriers, supporting flexibility, and developing new models of care is encouraging, and we recognise the potential these reforms have to create a more inclusive and effective system.
We suggest further measures the government should consider.
