Fire Walk Raises Temperatures and Funds

The Step by Step Fire Walk proved to be a great success, raising over £6,500 for young people facing homelessness and other challenges.

Taking place at our Basingstoke foyer, the event attracted a range of brave participants, including supporters, volunteers and Step by Step staff. We were especially delighted that a number of the young people we support also took part.

The experts from Fire Walk UK set up the burning coals and gave the participants an engaging and informative briefing which (somewhat) allayed people’s fears. Still, there was much nervous chatter as the participants got ready to step on the coals, burning at 500-degrees centigrade.

Everyone who signed up to do the walk completed the challenge – many even went back for another go. The evening had a fantastic atmosphere and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Even better, the event raised a great amount to support the young people who rely on our services.

Anda Chiu, Head of Fundraising, commented: “It was fantastic to see so many people get involved in our first ever fire walk. The evening was a lot of fun, with lots of nervous laughter before the walk and excited chatter afterwards. The money raised will make a genuine difference to young lives, so thank you so much to everyone who took part or sponsored our brave walkers!”

We welcome the Government announcement of a new comprehensive homelessness strategy, including £3.5 billion investment over the next three years.

But its success will depend upon how much it offers a joined-up approach and a clear route from homelessness to independent living.
