Step by Step Celebrates National Supported Lodgings Week

From 9th to 16th November, we’ll be taking part in the first ever National Supported Lodgings Week. This is a fantastic opportunity to shine a light on a service changing the lives of hundreds of young people every year.

With youth homelessness on the rise, and young people leaving care with nowhere to turn, Supported Lodgings offers a lifeline. Young people live in the home of a host individual or family, combining a safe place to live with a mentor to help them rebuild their lives. Hosts are fully trained and financially compensated, with a Step by Step Support Worker on hand to support the placement.

National Supported Lodgings Week, organised by Host the Future, aims to raise awareness of this life-changing service, as well as the pressing need for the public to step forward as hosts.

As the UK’s leading provider of Supported Lodgings, Step by Step is getting behind National Supported Lodgings Week. We’ll be out and about exhibiting, featured in the press, and shouting about it on social media.

You, too, can get involved. Find out more about the week and where we’ll be on our National Supported Lodgings page.

Government Pledges to Reverse Decline in Foster Carers

Our reaction and recommendations

Step by Step welcomes the Government’s announcement that they are aiming to reverse the decline in foster carer numbers. The proposed focus on removing barriers, supporting flexibility, and developing new models of care is encouraging, and we recognise the potential these reforms have to create a more inclusive and effective system.

We suggest further measures the government should consider.
